Quickstart
This guide walks you through setting up ChatAgent from sign-up to live conversations.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”Before you start, you’ll need:
- A WhatsApp Business API number — ChatAgent requires the WhatsApp Business Platform (cloud API). If you’re using the free WhatsApp Business app, you’ll need to upgrade. Learn more about the API →
- A ChatAgent account — Sign up free at app.chatagent.so
- Your product catalog — Product names, descriptions, prices, and images (CSV or manual entry)
Step 1: Sign up and connect WhatsApp
Section titled “Step 1: Sign up and connect WhatsApp”- Go to app.chatagent.so/signup and create your account
- Navigate to Settings → WhatsApp in the dashboard
- Click Connect WhatsApp Number
- Follow the prompts to link your WhatsApp Business API number via the Meta Business Platform
- Verify the connection — you’ll see a green “Connected” status when it’s live
Step 2: Import your catalog
Section titled “Step 2: Import your catalog”- Go to Catalog in the dashboard
- Choose your import method:
- Shopify / Tokopedia / Shopee — Connect your store and auto-sync products
- CSV upload — Upload a spreadsheet with product data
- Manual entry — Add products one by one
- Review the imported products and fix any issues
- Set categories, tags, and availability
Once imported, your AI agents will use this catalog to answer product questions and make recommendations.
Step 3: Configure your AI agents
Section titled “Step 3: Configure your AI agents”The Closer (auto-reply)
Section titled “The Closer (auto-reply)”Go to AI Settings → Auto-Reply and configure:
- Greeting message — What customers see when they first message you
- Business hours — When the AI responds vs. when it hands off to a human
- Response rules — Topics the AI handles (pricing, shipping, returns) and topics that route to a human
- Tone of voice — Formal, casual, friendly — match your brand
The Retainer (repeat orders)
Section titled “The Retainer (repeat orders)”Go to AI Settings → Repeat Orders and configure:
- Reorder timing — How many days after purchase to send a reminder
- Message templates — What the reminders say
- Product associations — Which products trigger reminders (e.g., consumables)
Step 4: Test and go live
Section titled “Step 4: Test and go live”- Use the Test Chat feature in the dashboard to simulate conversations
- Check that the AI responds correctly to common questions
- Verify the catalog sync is working (product links, prices, images)
- Switch the connection from sandbox to live
- Start monitoring conversations in the shared inbox
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”Once live, your AI agents handle incoming conversations automatically:
- New messages get instant AI responses
- Customers can browse products and place orders in chat
- Past customers receive reorder reminders on schedule
- Your team picks up conversations that need a human touch — all context preserved in the shared inbox
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp not connecting | Check that your API number is active in Meta Business Platform |
| Catalog not syncing | Re-authenticate the store integration in Settings → Integrations |
| AI giving wrong answers | Update your product catalog or adjust response rules in AI Settings |
| Messages not delivering | Verify your WhatsApp Business account is in good standing with Meta |
